American Economic History Seventh Edition contains a wide variety of economic and political theory from Karl Marx on communism to Ronald Reagan on supply side economics and Milton Friedman on Monetary Economics. The purpose of this book is to examine the evolution of economic thought and the historical events that affected the economic growth of the world's industrialized countries, with emphasis on the United States. This is not a book about government, or industry, it is about the people, past and present that contributed to the current understanding of economic and political theory in an historical context. The major theories of micro and macroeconomics are discussed but the major emphasis is how these theories were developed and taught by those economists and political thinkers who invented them in the first place. The book also contains current economic data for the Gross Domestic Product (March 2017), Employment (April 2017), the Money Supply (December 2016), the President's 2018 Budget and many other economic indicators.

Dr. Carmichael is a professor in the College of Distance Learning and Continuing Education at Gardner-Webb University. He previously served as the Alex Lee Professor of Business at Lenoir-Rhyne College. He also served as a Visiting Professor of Finance at Washington College in Chestertown, MD and a Faculty Associate with the Johns Hopkins University Division of Business in Baltimore, MD In addition, Carmichael has held executive positions Bank America Corp., as Vice President of Market Planning and Research and Manufacturers Hanover Corp. as a Financial Economists. Also, he has over ten years’ experience with the U.S. Government as Budget Manager for the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Maryland and as Branch Chief for Credit Programs for the U.S. Small Business Administration in Washington, DC. He holds a BS in Economics, an MBA in Financial Management and a PH.D. in Business Administration.
